DELBA Electrical’s Alrode facility is our dedicated Large Machines centre — purpose-built for the repair, rewinding, balancing and testing of high-voltage, medium-voltage and DC rotating machines for South Africa’s mining, power generation and heavy industrial sectors.
For more than sixty years, DELBA Electrical has built its reputation on a single promise: that a machine leaving our workshop performs better and lasts longer than it did before it arrived.
DELBA Electrical has been repairing electrical rotating machines since 1963. What began as a small motor repair shop founded by Isidoro Del Piccolo and Armando Balocco has grown into one of Southern Africa’s most trusted names in rotating machine refurbishment — still privately held, still family-owned, and now more than 230 people strong.
Our Alrode branch in Alberton is where we handle the biggest and most demanding work: large-frame motors, generators, turbine rotors and DC machines that keep mines, power stations and processing plants running.
Whether you operate a mine in Mpumalanga, a power station in the Free State, a petrochemical plant in Gauteng or a manufacturing line in KwaZulu-Natal, the DELBA Alrode branch gives you access to world-class rotating machine capability — backed by six decades of hard-won engineering knowledge.
Our Alrode Large Machines division repairs and refurbishes AC high-voltage electrical rotating machines up to 50 MW and 11 000 V. Every machine follows a controlled process — incoming inspection and electrical testing, controlled strip-down, insulation burnout, core loss testing, rewinding, vacuum pressure impregnation, reassembly and full-load performance validation. Work is carried out to original equipment manufacturer specification by qualified artisans.
Direct current machine repair up to 30 MW and 1 500 V, including traction motors, wheel motors, alternators and stirrers. DC machines demand specialist knowledge of commutators, brush gear, interpoles and armature winding — expertise that has become increasingly rare and that DELBA has retained and developed continuously since 1963.
Generator and turbo-alternator repair and service up to 65 MW and 11 000 V. From stator rewinds and rotor rewinds to core repairs, complete overhauls and diagnostic testing, our power generation capability supports utilities, independent power producers, co-generation plants and standby generation installations.
DELBA Electrical has specialised in the repair, rewind and manufacture of electrical rotating machines since 1963. Workshop and field services cover motors, generators and pumps, including VPI, coil manufacture, rotor balancing, machining and finishing
